BEING A BIG SISTER

If you have some stories to share, experience to pass along, some fun up your sleeve, or a positive outlook with two hours a week to share with a friend, then you'd make a great Big Sister.

Big Sisters
A Big Sister is a volunteer who is over 20 years of age, who is responsible and mature, and has a genuine interest in providing guidance and support to a young girl.  Big Sisters come from all walks of life: married, single, retired, with or without children.  There is no financial commitment to the Little Sister's family.  The most precious gift you can offer is your time and friendship.

Little Sisters
Little Sisters are girls and young women between the ages of 6 and 16, who would greatly benefit from having the support, guidance and positive influence of a Big Sister.  After filling out a questionnaire, there is an application process to match you with a Little Sister that fits your profile.  Of course, both of you must agree to the match before your first outing. Outings consist of exciting, interesting and sometimes relaxing activities that you choose to do.  There are also several fun sponsored events provided throughout the year, such as Blue Jay's Day, BBQ's and our annual Christmas party.

Training & Support
Our Caseworker guides all Big Sisters through the orientation and training they need to develop healthy and positive relationships with their Little Sisters.

Benefits
By simply listening, talking, being yourself and having fun, you will help your Little Sister to improve her self-confidence, self-image, academics, personal relationships and interest in activities.  A Big Sister can even dramatically increase a Little Sister's chance of staying in school.  That's something you can both take pride in.
